The learning of language Grammar normally starts with the understanding of its basic sentence structure. In order for sentence to exist it should have an object and a subject in it. The two simply make no sense without each other. In physics we learn that an object can’t exist without the matter which it is made of (the subject). Why would it be different in real life when we talk about sales you think? In fact, it wouldn’t. Each product available on sale today worth just as much as the value of its created meaning. (Find out what value is here).
The understanding of this marketing concept is important if you ever want to make money online by selling products or services on your own (otherwise, you boss has to take care of the definition of this stuff). Let me give you an example to clarify it.
Apple’s success explained
The world is now crazy about Apple products, which are in essence nothing special but a piece of computing equipment, albeit a pretty one, (an object) with definite meaning (a subject) created by both its marketers and the public. You might argue here, that iPhone or iPad have been revolutionary products in their segments. But if you put them next to competitors’ products you will realize they severely lack in functionality. So, why Apple is more popular than Motorola or Samsung analogs?
How Apple does it
In simple terms, marketers at Apple know how to increase meaning of their products to general public. They start the ball rolling by showing us all those fancy TV commercials and online advertisements about how cool their products are. Next thing you see, people who bought Apple products are considered cool in their circles. Now, the others who haven’t got the latest Apple gadget yet increase the meaning = value = subject of the product by appreciating thier friends’ gadgets without even noticing it. The process continues until everyone ‘affected’ buys the product and craze wears off. Of course, at this stage Apple releases new gadget and the circle repeats.
You can do the same too
The important thing to understand here is that you can sell virtually anything as long as it has a meaning attached to it. The air in empty bottles from Princes William’s recent wedding has been sold for ridiculous amounts of money on online auctions because it had a meaning. In the same way, you can sell a certain product if you are able to make it meaningful enough for the buyers that they will be ready to pay for it. Nothing gets popular by itself; the sellers make their products popular using various media sources to influence minds of potential customers. It has always been that way and continues so. You could make the best product out there but keep it in your shed hidden from everyone and it will get you nowhere. But show it to your neighbor and. if he likes it, he will tell his friends about it. That’s how the meaning starts to be created.
